About Radiofrequency Ablation

Radiofrequency waves are commonly utilized for pain relief in patients. RF ablation, or rhizotomy, is a minimally invasive procedure in pain management. RF waves ablate the damaged nerves or modulate them, to stop the transmission of pain. This procedure is carried out under imaging guidance.

  • Pulsed RFA

The procedure is done in operation theatre under local anesthesia. The patient is made to lie on the operation table and the appropriate joint/ spine is identified under imaging guidance. RF needle is inserted under imaging guidance to target the concerned nerve and thereafter RFA is performed using RF machine

All of these procedures take less than 1 hour. After the procedure is over the patient is shifted to recovery room and monitored for any postoperative complications/ drug reactions for 2 hours.

There are minimal side affects when the procedure is performed after adequate preparation and under imaging guidance by skilled hands.
